About The Department
The Department of English was established in 1949. The B.A. classes were started from the academic session 1949–50 and the M.A. classes from 1960. The sanctioned posts of the department are six and, presently, there are five highly qualified permanent teachers with excellent academic achievements. The department boasts of its erudite legacy of an outstanding academia with Dr. Darbari, Dr. B. R. Sharma, Dr. V. N. Pandey, Dr. G. N. Garg, and Dr. Leela Kanal as its towering stalwarts.
The Department of English provides courses both at UG (3 years, semester system) and PG (2 years, semester system) levels. Over the past 25 years, the department’s faculty—serving as members and conveners of the Board of Studies, Bundelkhand University—have played a pivotal role in shaping, modifying, and revising the syllabi. The success rate of the students has been approximately 90%.
The methods of teaching are both traditional as well as tech-oriented. The teachers regularly organize literary activities like Literary Club, Group Discussions, Paper Reading, Poster Exhibitions, and Quizzes to enhance the academic potential of the students and to help them gain awareness of the latest developments in the literary realms. The department also conducts classes for foreign languages—German and French—as Value-Added Courses. In addition, postgraduate students receive free online coaching for competitive examinations, resulting in a consistent record of students qualifying for NET/JRF, TGT, and PGT each year—a matter of great pride for the department.
Objectives
1. To Help Students To Perceive Other Cultures Without Being Ethnocentric. This Will Help Them Appreciate Other Cultures By Understanding Their Cultural Practices.
2. To Expose Students To The Process Of Anthropological Interpretation And Representation.
3. To Enable Students Become More Sensitive To Social And Cultural Issues.
