Department of Mathematics 

The Department of Mathematics, established in 1949 and then affiliated to Agra University vide letter no.AF/144/dated 12.07.1949 for B.A. classes and thereafter affiliation was granted for MA/M.Sc.classes in 1961 vide letter No.4438 date 05.09.1961 in Jhansi. From 1949 to 1985 this was the only PG department of mathematics. The Department of Mathematics provides courses both at UG and PG levels. It offers courses like BA of three years (Six semesters) and MA/M.Sc. of two years (Four semesters). Admission in Semester first of M.A./M.Sc. and B.A. are  made on merit prepared on the basis of marks obtained in qualifying exam. Scholarships are provided for the economically weaker students of all castes. Most of the students belong to middle and lower middle classes. The medium of math teaching is largely English. The Students generally are from Vernacular medium schools of the 10 2 level. The curriculum of B.A. Mathematics was revised in 2021-2022 and the NEP (semester system) was introduced. The entire course is divided in six semesters. The curriculum of M.A./M.Sc. Mathematics  was revised in 2022-2023 and the NEP (semester system) was introduced. The entire course is divided in four semesters and in each semester total 04 major papers are taught.  The success rate of the students has been approximately 95%, with average dropout rate of approx. 5%.  There are about 100 books in the departmental library for the personal use of the students and faculty members. There is one computer with internet connection for the use of the department. Besides this, there are literary magazines and journals available in the department for both students and staff. The methods of teaching are traditional. Assignments are given to students to encourage and motivate them towards self study. The teachers regularly organize literary activities like Group Discussion, Quiz Competition and Seminar etc. to enhance the academic potentials of the students. The students are helped and counseled by the teachers during and after classes. The members of the Department have attended and participate in several conferences, seminars and workshops during the past years.  Linear Algebra,Special functions, Fuzzy set theory, Graph Theory, Bio Mathematics, Fluid Dynamics, Numerical Methods for solving problems, Modern Algebra are the priority areas for Research of the faculty members.  The Department has produced many bright students who have gone on to both public and private sectors.
