The Department of History was established in 1949, marking the beginning of its long-standing contribution to higher education. The Undergraduate (B.A.) programs had commenced in the academic session 1949–50, followed by the introduction of postgraduate courses in 1960. Since its foundation, the department is committed to nurturing a deeper understanding of the past and its enduring impact on the present. The department introduces students to significant events, ideas, and movements that have shaped human civilization. Emphasizing critical thinking, research, and analytical skills, it prepares learners to engage with history not just as a record of the past, but as a dynamic discipline that informs cultural identity, and future possibilities. 

At present, the department is sanctioned with four permanent faculty positions, all of which are filled. Over the decades, its academic strength has been enriched by the scholarship and commitment of distinguished educators such as Dr. Bilas Rai Mishra, Dr. B.D. Gupta, Dr. S.P. Pathak, Dr. R.K. Bhatiya, Dr. Kailash Khanna, Dr. Manju Singh, and Dr. Umesh Kanchan whose contributions have fostered an atmosphere of intellectual rigor.

The department is presently headed by Professor Ajeet Singh, with Dr. Umesh Chandra Yadava, Mr. Ravendra Singh Yadav, and Mr. Vivek Kumar Singh serving as esteemed faculty members.

Beyond conventional classroom teaching, the Department of History actively promotes student engagement through seminars, interactive discussions, and project-based learning, thereby nurturing analytical skills and research orientation. With a strong foundation in both traditional pedagogy and modern approaches, the department consistently produces graduates who excel in academics, civil services and a wide range of professional fields.
