About the Department:-
The Geography
Department of Bundelkhand College Jhansi was established in the session 1975-76
as UG department. It was upgraded as PG department in 2019-2020. At present
Post Graduate course is being run under a self-finance scheme. The total no. of
posts sanctioned in the department are 04 (02 in UG and 02 in PG) and, at
present, there are 03 teachers working in the department with excellent
teaching skills and outstanding academic records. The department boasts of its
erudite legacy of outstanding academia with Dr. Rajendra Singh and Dr D.K.
Mishra. The Department of geography provides courses both at UG (3 years,
semester system) and PG (2 years) levels. It boasts of its success with more
than 95% as a passing percentage. Students here score very good marks and
obtain ranks in the college and university merit list too. The faculty of the
department is actively engaged in teaching. Along with that, it has made a
special contribution in publishing research papers, authoring and editing
books, organizing seminars and workshops, etc. The department has adequate
resources for its students. It has a well-maintained library that contains
various reference books, survey reports, several national and international
journals, dissertations and PhD thesis, etc. As well as a well-equipped
laboratory with latest equipment, 3D models and maps, etc. Establishment of a
computer lab and smart classroom is under process. Popular careers in Geography
includes academics (various teaching positions from primary level to higher
studies), Researcher in different research organizations, Cartographers,
Surveyors, Environmental Consultant, Town Planner/town planning officer, Urban
and Regional Planner, Climatologist, and Climate Change Analyst Tourism Officer,
Tourism Planner and Advisor, Geospatial Analyst, GIS Specialist, Demographer,
Hydrologist, Soil and Water Conservator/conservation Officer, etc. depending on
the area of specialization. Since the nature of jobs after a geography
degree is very diverse, the salary can vary tremendously. One can expect a
starting salary somewhere around INR 2.4LPA to INR 10.0 LPA, depending on the
profile and kind of work.
